COVEN RING (Khyber Center for the Arts)
The asuang represents a body that is in process, and in its plurality can be faced with contradictions specific to itself. These notions are addressed in these large works, implying the struggle, and encounter between seemingly opposite systems that in themselves serve to inform and define each other. The collective imagery of the Asuang, reconfigured and transformed into fighters moments before and after some sort of match or battle, and accompanied with the talismanic accoutrements of protection assigned to such sports as Boxing, suggest an event taking place – an otherworldly gathering.
